Steps to online registration

  1. Create an account.
  2. In the Active Permits section select “Add permit” button on right side – a popup will appear requesting vehicle information.
  3. Enter vehicle information and select “add to cart” (If a message indicates that the vehicle's plate is already in the system. Please contact the Parking Clerks to clear the old information.)
  4. Repeat process for your second vehicle.
One-Time Permit Transfer: 
A no cost one-time transference (per permit for permit year), of an active resident-permit from one vehicle plate to another. 
  • Qualified permits: Residential Parking Permit, Senior Residential Parking Permit, Senior-Meter and Municipal Permit, and Residential Commuter Permit.
(Only done at the Parking Window room 110. Must have the old and new registration)



An active Residential Parking Permit allows the vehicle to park on the specific street of the residence or streets included in the zone. All Senior Permits and Variance Parking Permits must be applied for in-person.

COST: First 2 household cars $20.00 per car • 3rd car $30.00 • 4th car $40.00 • 5th car $50.00 (maximum of 5 permitted vehicles per residence). 

PROOF OF VEHICLE: Upload a clear copy of the valid and unexpired Massachusetts vehicle registration, must have the City of Medford address printed by the Registry of Motor Vehicle (RMV), the Medford address with unit and, or an apartment is required to be clearly indicated by the RMV in the "Garaged Address" if the "Owner-Mailing Address" is different. The RMV Registration Replacement, RMV Residential Address form, RMV Renewal Letter, handwritten address changes are not acceptable.

The Business Parking Permit can only be used by workers of employers and businesses in the City of Medford address of the business.

COST: $125.00 for each permit.

An active Residential Commuter Permit allows the vehicle to park in the city's two designated commuter areas - City Hall Upper Lot and Playstead Road Lot

A Properly displayed Visitor’s Parking Permit allows a non-permitted vehicle to park on a permitted street (commercial vehicles are prohibited to park on public streets between 12 AM -6 AM).

COST: $10 for each permit. (add .69 cents for mailing fee). No replacements are available (2 maximum)
