All parking permits and Visitor Parking Permits are valid for a period of one calendar year (January 1 until December 31).

  • Please be advised, when uploading documents, 5 MB is the max image size. Please convert a PNG file to a JPEG file.
  • Parking Clerks will not receive the permit application if the "" is not selected, without debit/visa card information or if the vehicle registration missing.

    The City of Medford does not issue a decal or sticker as proof of the parking permit. Nothing will be sent in the mail in this regard. The license plate number of the vehicle will be used to verify the parking permit status. 

Steps to online registration

  1. Create an account.
  2. In the Active Permits section select “Add permit” button on right side – a popup will appear requesting vehicle information.
  3. Enter vehicle information and select “add to cart” (If a message indicates that the vehicle's plate is already in the system. Please contact the Parking Clerks to clear the old information.)
  4. Repeat process for your second vehicle.
  Residential Parking Permit
An active Residential Parking Permit allows the vehicle to park on the  specific street of the residence or streets included in the zone. All Senior Permits and Variance Parking Permits must be applied for in-person.
COST: First 2 household cars $20.00 per car • 3rd car $30.00 • 4th car $40.00 • 5th car $50.00 (maximum of 5 permitted vehicles per residence). 
PROOF OF VEHICLE: Upload a clear copy of the valid and unexpired Massachusetts vehicle registration must have the City of Medford address printed by the Registry of Motor Vehicle (RMV), the Medford address with unit and or apartment is required to be clearly indicated by the RMV in the "Garaged Address" if the "Owner-Mailing Address" is different. The RMV Registration Replacement, RMV Residential Address form, RMV Renewal Letter, handwritten address changes are not acceptable. 
PROOF OF RESIDENCE: Upload a clear copy of one of the following: (Each document must be valid or no older than 12 months.)
1) Massachusetts vehicle registration 2) Driver's License 3) Lease Agreement/Deed 4) Utility Bill 
(Each document is required to have the City of Medford address printed by the Registry of Motor Vehicle (RMV), to apply for a Residential Parking Permit, the unit and or apartment must be clearly indicated.)

Business Parking Permit: 
The Business Parking Permit can only be used by workers of employers and businesses in the City of Medford address of the business.
COST: $125.00 for each permit. 
PROOF OF VEHICLE: Upload a clear copy of the  valid and unexpired vehicle registration. 
PROOF OF RESIDENCE: 
For the proof of the business address, one of the following is required: (Each document must be valid or no older than 12 months and indicate the City of Medford address of the business.)
1) Letter of Employment from the business on the company's letterhead 2) Business Card 3) Official document pertaining to the business 

Residential Commuter Permit:
An active Residential Commuter Permit allows the vehicle to park in the city's two designated commuter areas - City Hall Upper Lot and Playstead Road Lot
COST: $125.00 for each permit. 
PROOF OF VEHICLE: Upload a clear copy of the valid and unexpired Massachusetts vehicle registration must have the City of Medford address printed by the Registry of Motor Vehicle (RMV), the Medford address with unit and or apartment is required to be clearly indicated by the RMV in the "Garaged Address" if the "Owner-Mailing Address" is different. The RMV Registration Replacement, RMV Residential Address form, RMV Renewal Letter, handwritten address changes are not acceptable.

Visitor Parking Permit:
A properly displayed placard allows a non-permitted vehicle to park on a permitted street. 
COST: $10 each (2 maximum) - No replacements are available
PROOFS OF RESIDENCE: For the proof of residency upload a full color picture of the valid Massachusetts driver's license, Massachusetts state identification card or temporary Massachusetts driver's license with the current Medford address printed by RMV (Handwritten changes will not be accepted) and
SUPPORTING PROOF: One of the following is required as additional proof of residence: Upload a clear copy of one of the following: (Each document must be valid or no older than 12 months.)
1) A valid and unexpired Massachusetts vehicle registration 2Lease Agreement/Deed 3Utility Bill 
To create and purchase Visitors Parking Permits following these procedures: "Add Permit" → "Add Vehicle" → 
Then create a VIS plate using the following procedures:
The prefix is VIS then add the first 3 letters of your first name and the first 3 letters of your last name. For an example "Parking Clerk" is VISPARCLE1 for one visitor permit and VISPARCLE2 for a second. 
Then select "Save"
Once the VIS plate(s) is made. Follow the next steps to purchase the permit: Permit Vehicle: Vis plate, → Parking Location: The street of your residence, → Permit: Visitor Parking Permit Fee Only, → Start "today's date" and End Date 12/31/2025
Then select "Add to Cart"
  • On the Buy Permit Screen - Permit Shopping cart details will show the vehicles you have registered with $ 10.69 value – you must select “accept terms” and select the “” button. A pop up will appear regarding privacy and terms of reference. If you agree - select yes.
  • Once the Parking Permit process is complete – you will receive an email confirming account setup. An additional email will be sent when the permit(s) are approved.  
  • The two Visitors Parking Permit will be mailed once the requested information is reviewed and approved.

  • For rental replacements please bring your rental agreement letter and registration of both permitted and rental vehicles. A two week temporary transfer notice will be issued. Please contact the Parking Clerks for further details.
  • * Postal Worker Parking Permit: $30.00 each - A permit that requires a current valid vehicle registration and current U.S. Postal Service Identification badge to the Parking Department window.

  • * New Resident Pass: $10.00 each - This pass is for new residents to Medford who are in the process of transferring their vehicle registration to Medford. This permit is only good for 2 weeks. It is a one-time permit.  Requirements: Massachusetts registration and a lease agreement or a utility bill in your name. 

  • * Home Healthcare Parking Permit: $125.00 each - The Home Healthcare Parking Permit cost $100.00. Home Healthcare businesses and workers are able to park in the Municipal Lots and Residential Parking areas throughout the city. When obtaining a permit in-person, please bring a valid vehicle registration and one of the following: a letter from the business on the letterhead, a business card, or an official business document stating the employment of the professional.

  • City Hall Employee Parking Permit: Submit a valid vehicle registration to the Mayor’s Admin in the Mayor's Office for consideration and approval.

  • * Senior (Senior Residential Parking Permit): A free Residential Parking Permit for the City of Medford senior residents 65 years and older (with D.O.B. identification). Bring a clear copy of the Massachusetts vehicle registration (must have the City of Medford address printed by the Registry of Motor Vehicle (RMV), to apply for a Residential Parking Permit). The street address is required to be printed by the RMV in the Garaged or Owner-Mailing Address. The RMV Registration Replacement, RMV Residential Address form, RMV Renewal Letter, handwritten address changes are not acceptable.
  • * Senior Citywide (Meter and Municipal Lot Parking Permit): $25.00 - A parking permit that allows the vehicle to park at the parking meters, kiosk areas and municipal parking lots and does not have to pay at the site. expires at the end of the calendar year, for Medford residents 65 years and older (with D.O.B. identification). Bring a clear copy of the Massachusetts vehicle registration (must have the City of Medford address printed by the Registry of Motor Vehicle (RMV), to apply for a Residential Parking Permit). The street address is required to be printed by the RMV in the Garaged or Owner-Mailing Address. The RMV Registration Replacement, RMV Residential Address form, RMV Renewal Letter, handwritten address changes are not acceptable.
  • * Permit Parking for Parking Variance (Residence or Corner Residence): Citizens authorized by the City of Medford Traffic Commission to park on local adjacent streets that are different from the street address of the residence. All applications for authorized Variance Parking Permits must be processed in the Parking Department office room 110, in the Medford City Hall.

New Visitor Parking Permit Regulations as of Thursday, December 1, 2022 (For questions, please contact the Traffic Commission at: (781)391-6409):

  • * Display this visitor permit on the driver’s side of the front dashboard above the steering wheel so that it is fully readable from the exterior.
  • * This permit is valid only on the street written on this permit.
  • * Visitor permits may be used no more than two days in any one-week period, except for Sundays. The visitor permits shall be used only while visitors are actually visiting the household to which the permits are issued.
  • * Only one permit is valid per vehicle per week. Use of two permits consecutively on the same vehicle in the same week is not permitted.
  • * Permit use is recorded and monitored by parking enforcement specialists who observe the vehicle’s license plate.
  • * Please obey all applicable traffic regulations and parking restrictions (no parking on sidewalks or within 20 feet of an intersection, no commercial overnight parking, no obstructing driveways, no parking in the wrong direction, etc.).
  • * This permit may not be copied, sold, transferred, or altered in any way.
